Howth for Irish Food and Dublin for Whiskey
Running out of camera batteries
07.06.2007
After Kilkenny, we went on to Dublin.
I tried to log onto the internet from the room, and could not get the computer to connect even though I had paid for 24 hours of internet through the business center. Then I took the computer down to the business center (which is on our floor) and could not connect even when I used the LAN cable. Finally after i disabled the firewall, I managed to log on and get email.

We had to leave at 6:30 smartly for a trip to Abbey Tavern

and a typical Irish meal. We both had the

Leek and potato soup
(alternative was Roquefort salad),

Corned beef and cabbage
(alternative was salmon) and I had

Apple tart
and my grandson had ice cream. Afterwards there was Irish Coffee (My grandson had coke and I had nothing), and Irish dancing. At the end they called my grandson, Ryan and Victoria up on stage.

While they were dancing, I walked down to the waterfront and photographed the lighthouse, and my first charged camera battery died. I certainly hope I get the charger tomorrow.

Dying Camera Battery
Hotel at night - Dublin
June 7 - We had a later wake-up call this morning and went down for breakfast. The scrambled eggs were all runny, and there was no cranberry juice. Lots of rolls though, and lots of ham, bacon, sausage etc which I don't eat. Some nice sliced potatoes fried crisp.

We got the front seats on the bus today, but i was so worried about the camera battery that I did not take many pictures.

they were mopping the ladies room floor and wouldn't let us in, so we had to use the handicapped bathroom. The actual distillery is out in the country now, so the old distillery building is just for tours. They took us through the whole process and then gave us a free whiskey drink. My grandson and Ryan got coke and I got cranberry juice with no whiskey in it.
They picked two women and two men to be tasters at the end.
Three of the tasters: Annie-center, Jim -right
One of the women was Ryan's mom Annie and one of the men was Bill who has a Pearson 34 in Maine and the other was Jim who was one of the kings at the banquet the first night. That was appropriate as his stated goal was to drink at as many pubs as possible.
They gave them three Irish whiskeys, one Scotch whiskey and one US whiskey (Johnny Walker). Annie picked another Irish whiskey with Gold in the name which is made by a subsidiary of Jameson. Everyone else picked the Jameson.
Then we went to Trinity College and saw the Book of Kells. No pictures please.

Afterwards, I was completely beat and needed to go to the bathroom, so I bought some postcards and with the change, I got the bus back to the hotel. My grandson was with Scott and his mom and aunt. They walked around downtown Dublin and then came back.
I got on the internet and when my grandson got back I was so sleepy I could hardly keep my eyes open, so
I handed the computer over to him to do his my-space, and I took a nap. About 3, ,my grandson and Scott went out and got pizza. Then he went to sleep.
I continued to be on the computer after he woke up, and about 2300, the internet time I had came to an end, so I said we had to pack to have the bags outside early in the morning as the bus was going to leave at 6:50 because some people had early flights.

Was the Whiskey museum tour interesting even when you don't drink the stuff?
I have wondered about that becouse Dublin/Ireland is on my bucket list and almost every "What to do in Dublin"-listing has the whiskeyvtourbin it and I don't like whiskey.
